ADEN, May 08 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), appointed a new a deputy to replace Hani bin Brik, who is detained in Abu Dhabi.
A spokesman of the STC factions, Mohammed al-Naqib, confirmed in a tweet on his Twitter that “the Salafi leader Abdul Rahman Saleh Zain al-Mahrami “Abu Zara” has been appointed as vice president of the STC that was established by the UAE in May 2017.
It is noteworthy that Al- Mahrami works as the commander of al-Amaliqa factions funded by the UAE, which is one of the extremist Salafist groups in southern Yemen.
Al-Mahrami’s appointment as vice president of the STC came along with the appointment of a member of “Riyadh-formed Presidential Council”, Faraj al-Bahsani, as vice president of the STC, and Ahmed Saeed bin Brik as vice president of the STC.
Abdullah Issa Al Afrar, Abdulrab al-Naqib, Fadl al-Jaadi, Ali al-Katheeri, Amr Ali Salem al-Beidh, Haitham Qasim Taher and Kamal Hamshari were also appointed as members of the presidency of the STC.
This announcement comes within the results of the conclusion of the consultative meeting called by the STC and held last Thursday in Aden.
So far, no explicit explanations have been issued by Abu Zaraa al-Mahrami or Faraj al-Bahsani about accepting the appointments announced by the STC, especially since such an announcement will lead to a breach of the centers of power in the “Presidential Council”, in addition to the fact that these appointments will create more obstacles for Saudi Arabia, which seeks to acquire the areas controlled by the coalition in Yemen, and exclude Abu Dhabi from the scene.
