SANAA, March 19 (YPA) – 14 people were killed and others injured by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale that struck southern Ecuador and Peruvian border cities last night.
According to Agence France-Presse, the Ecuadorian presidency said via Twitter: “the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 killed 13 people in the southwestern provinces of El Oro and Azuay, as well as there are injured who have not been counted”.
The presidency called on residents to remain calm and receive information through official channels regarding the damage to buildings.
In the Peruvian city of Tumbes, on the border with Ecuador, a four-year-old girl died as a result of the earthquake, old buildings and houses collapsed in the center of Cuenca, and several vehicles were destroyed by the rubble left by the earthquake, while many streets were closed due to the resulting landslides.
