Explosive remnants of war kill, injure 699 women in Yemen

SANAA, March 09 (YPA) – The Executive Center for Mine Action in Sanaa revealed on Thursday that 699 women were killed and injured as a result of explosive remnants of the war launched by the Saudi-led coalition against Yemen in 2015.

In a statement issued on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the center stated that since the start of the war in Yemen in March 2015 until the end of February 2023, at least 146 women have been killed and 553 others injured.

The center’s statement indicated that remnants of war have killed 10 women and injured 54 others over the past year.

The statement pointed out that women in Yemen are the most affected by the remnants of war, and they face great dangers while collecting firewood, fetching water, and grazing livestock due to the explosion of these remnants, including cluster bombs, landmines, and projectiles.

The center called for providing protection for women from the dangers of these remnants by cleansing areas contaminated with war remnants.
