ABYAN, Feb. 10 (YPA) – Violent clashes erupted on Friday between Saudi-led coalition factions in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
According to local sources in the province, clashes broke out between the coalition factions, against the backdrop of a decision issued by the pro-coalition minister of interior, Ibrahim Haidan, to dismiss the Chief of Staff of the Special Forces, in Abyan governorate over his refusal of directives to hand over the camp to the so-called “ the so-called “Dera Al-Watan forces” (Shield of the Homeland) formed by Saudi Arabia from extremist Salafi groups.
The sources indicated that a number of officers and individuals rejected the decision, which caused violent confrontations, without mentioning any victims.
The sources pointed out that elements of the “special forces” loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), refused to hand over the camp to the “Shield of the Homeland”.
The southern governorates have been witnessing a military tension after the arrival of Saudi forces “Shield of the Homeland” coming from Al Wadea, heading to the city of Aden.
