SANAA, Feb. 08 (YPA) – Foreign Minister, Hisham Sharaf, on Wednesday stressed that the support provided to Yemen should commensurate with the growing humanitarian needs due to the aggression and blockade imposed on Yemen, which will enter its ninth year in the coming weeks.
This came during his meeting with the United Nations Deputy Resident Coordinator in Sanaa, Diego Zorrilla.
The ongoing preparations for the donors’ conference to mobilize support for the humanitarian response plan in Yemen for the year 2023, which will be held on February 27, were discussed in the meeting, in addition to the latest developments related to the floating oil tanker “Safer”.
In the meeting, the Foreign Minister emphasized the need to move from the emergency phase to providing aid of a developmental nature and achieving a kind of beginning of economic stability.
Sharaf pointed out the necessity of accelerating the implementation of the agreement signed between the United Nations and the National Salvation Government regarding the Safer oil reservoir, in order to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe with unimaginable consequences. He indicated that the Salvation Government provided all the necessary facilities to start implementing the agreement and achieving its desired goals.
For his part, Zorrilla reaffirmed the importance of the commitment of the international community to mobilize support to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people by providing the necessary financial resources.
