SANAA, Feb. 08 (YPA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng.Hisham Sharaf Abdullah met on Wednesday with UN Deputy Resident Coordinator, Diego Zorrilla in Sana’a province.
During the meeting, which was attended by the director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Sajjad Mohammed Sajjad, discussed the ongoing preparations for the donor conference to mobilize support for the humanitarian response plan in Yemen for the year 2023, to be held on February 27, and the latest developments related to the floating oil reservoir Safir.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister confirmed the need for the support provided to Yemen to be commensurate with the growing humanitarian needs due to the aggression and the blockade imposed on Yemen, which will enter its ninth year in the coming weeks.
He also stressed the need to move from the emergency phase to the provision of assistance of a developmental nature and to achieve some kind of beginning of economic stability.
Minister Sharaf pointed out the need to accelerate the implementation of the agreement signed between the United Nations and the National Salvation Government regarding Safir floating oil reservoir to avoid an ominous humanitarian disaster, pointing out that the Salvation Government has provided all the necessary facilities to start implementing the agreement and achieve the desired goals.
For his part, the Deputy Resident Coordinator of the United Nations reiterated the importance of the commitment of the international community to mobilize support to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people by providing the necessary financial resources.
