Syria appeals int’l community to provide relief aid due to devastating earthquake

DAMASCUS, Feb. 06 (YPA) – Syria called on the United Nations and the international community to help provide relief aid to the country due to the devastating earthquake.

Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement that Syria appealed to the member states of the United Nations, the General Secretariat of the organization, its relevant agencies and funds, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian action partners from international governmental and non-governmental organizations to exert the support of the efforts made by the Syrian government in facing the catastrophe of the earthquake.

The official media outlets in Syria reported that there were large casualties and destruction in separate areas of the country as a result of the strong earthquake that struck southern Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean region.
