UAE reinforces its militias in Lawdar city

ABYAN, Jan. 17 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias sent on Tuesday new military reinforcements to Lawdar city of Abyan province, south of Yemen.

Local sources affirmed that members of the STC militia arrived with military vehicles to the “Security Belt” camp in the city, after tribal gunmen backed by militants of the “Southern Resistance” took control of the camp after violent confrontations last week.

The confrontations that erupted between the STC and gunmen from Lawdar tribes left about 10 dead and wounded, and a number of the STC’s military vehicles were destroyed.

The STC militia, coming from Dhalea and Lahj, south of Yemen, extended its control over the districts of Abyan, following the announcement of the so-called “East Arrows” operation, in early September.
