WORLD, Jan. 15 (YPA) – On the anniversary of the Tunisian revolution that led to overthrow of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011, Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Tunis on Saturday, denouncing President Kais Saied’s policies.
Media reported from Habib Bourguiba Avenue that despite attempts to prevent protesters from reaching Habib Bourguiba Avenue, demonstrators were able to reach it.
The protesters chanted slogans demanding the resignation of President Kais Saied, the overthrow of the coup and the release of Ennahda Vice President Ali Larayedh.
In defiance of the authorities’ decision on where the protests will take place, supporters of the National Salvation Front (NSF), the largest opposition grouping, gathered on Avenue Habib Bourguiba led by its president, Najib Chebbi, and with the participation of politicians, including members of the dissolved parliament.
Media outlets confirmed that other parties are also participating in the demonstrations under the umbrella of the Coordination of Social Democratic Parties, especially the Democratic Current, the Labor Party, the Republican Party and others.
The Tunisian capital witnessed protest movements and marches, organized by a number of opposition parties and organizations, marking 12th anniversary of the revolution in Tunisia.
