Iranian intelligence: Akbari is one of most important British spies in country

TEHRAN, Jan. 12 (YPA) – The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence on Wednesday said that Ali Reza Akbari is considered one of the most important elements of the British spy service in sensitive and strategic centers in Iran.

This came in a statement by the Iranian ministry commenting on the issuance of the death sentence against Akbari in the case of spying for Britain today.

The statement confirmed that “the verdict against Ali Reza Akbari took place in the case of corruption on earth and acting against Iranian national security, by transferring information to the British spy services.”

The ministry indicated that “the country’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence against Akbari.”

Akbari accused had been arrested some time ago on charges of espionage against the country’s interests.
