WORLD, Jan. 07 (YPA) – A 6-year-old boy was arrested by US police after he opened fire at his teacher and injured her seriously at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, Friday afternoon, in the United States.
Friday’s tragedy did not cause any other casualties.
Police Chief Steve Drew confirmed to us that a 6-year-old first grade student has been identified as the shooting suspect at a 5:30 p.m. press conference. The chief also stated that the shooting was not accidental.
For his part, Newport News Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. George Parker said, ““We need the community’s support, continued support, to make sure that guns are not available to youth and I’m sounding like a broken record today, because I continue to reiterate that: that we need to keep the guns out of the hands of our young people.”
The United States is plunged into the nightmare of shootings inside educational institutions, a tragedy that continues to unfold.
In May, 19 students and two teachers were killed when a teenager opened fire at a Texas elementary school.
