ABYAN, Jan. 02 (YPA) – UAE forces carried out on Monday an air landing on the coasts of Abyan province, south of Yemen.
Media sources outlets confirmed that the Emirati forces deployed in Ahwar district, located on the coast of the Arabian Sea.
The sources indicated that Emirati officers, including foreign military experts, arrived in the province via an Emirati plane, with the goal of establishing a military base in Ahwar district, which is the eastern gate of Abyan, under the pretext of “confronting terrorist elements.”
It coincided with the UAE sending military reinforcements on Sunday, to Abyan, to “confront the terrorist elements” that have been fighting a war against the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia since the STC announced the so-called “arrows of the East” operation in early September.
This came after circulating reports of an Emirati-Saudi intention to establish a camp for the “Tariq Afash” forces, in Al-Koud area of Khanfar district, close to the Arabian Sea.
Last week, Abyan governor, appointed by Sanaa government, Saleh Al-Junaidi, revealed a Saudi-American plan to strengthen the influence of terrorist organizations and redeploy them on a large scale in the province, in attempt to spreading chaos.
Observers have believed that the UAE military moves in the seam areas between the province of Abyan and Shabwa come within the preparations that Abu Dhabi is making to secure Abyan and to take control of the Wadi Hadramout, in addition to expel the Islah militants from the “first military zone”, in light of a noticeable Western interest in the Hadramout, which has been the subject of extensive visits by US military and political delegations for the past three months.
The eastern provinces of Yemen are witnessing a frantic military race between the Western powers, “the Americans, the British, and the French,” to control Yemen’s oil and gas wealth.
