SANAA, Dec. 28 (YPA) – The Sudanese army spokesman, Nabil Abdullah, said on Wednesday his country’s troops withdrew from Al-Anad military base in Lahj province, southern Yemen.
In a statement to “Sudan Tribune” website, the spokesman affirmed that what it called “a military force from the Sudanese army that was operating at Al-Anad base withdrew two days ago towards the coastal city of Aden, to be replaced by a new force to secure another site inside Yemen.
“There are movements and changes of the Sudanese mercenaries participating in the war on Yemen on the side of the coalition,” he added.
The Saudi-led coalition countries brought in more than 15,000 Sudanese Janjaweed mercenaries to fight in Yemen and to defend the Saudi borders. Thousands of them were killed and injured by the Sanaa forces during the past years.
Last week, pro-coalition local media outlets circulated reports about the withdrawal of Sudanese mercenaries and their return to their country, and the replacement of extremist Salafi forces loyal to Saudi Arabia in Al-Anad base.
