SOMALIA, Dec. 24 (YPA) – The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) on Saturday announced the killing of 6 members of the Somali “Al-Shabaab” movement in an air strike that targeted the state of Hirshebelle, in the south of the country.
AFRICOM forces said in a statement that they carried out an air strike on December 23 to support the Somali army’s clashes against the “Al-Shabaab” movement, near the city of Adali (248 km northeast of Mogadishu).
The statement added that preliminary estimates indicated that 6 members of the “Al-Shabaab” were killed, while the raid did not cause any casualties among civilians.
The US forces confirmed that “the Somali government and AFRICOM forces have taken great measures to prevent civilian casualties during security operations.”
This is the third raid of its kind this month, as AFRICOM previously announced that it carried out two airstrikes on December 14 and 17, which killed 15 Al-Shabab fighters in the two raids.
