WORLD, Nov. 30 (YPA) – Tokyo plans to buy about 500 Tomahawk winged missiles from the United States until 2027. The Japanese newspaper “Yomiuri” quoted Japanese and American government sources saying.
According to the sources, Tokyo is counting on creating conditions to benefit from the “right to pre-emptive strikes at the bases of a potential enemy,” which is currently being discussed in Japanese political circles.
Those discussions are being held at the insistence of representatives of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
The sources also said the plans to buy Tomahawk missiles are linked to North Korea’s development of its missile program.
According to the newspaper, the issue of buying missiles was addressed during Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s talks with US President Joe Biden in Cambodia on November 13.
During the talks, Biden reiterated Washington’s determination to ensure Japan’s access to US weapons.
