SANAA, Oct. 12 (YPA) – Regional director of the Norwegian Center for Conflict Resolution(NOREF), Omar Aboud, expressed Norway’s desire to open direct channels of communication with the National Salvation Government in Sanaa.
During his meeting with President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, the Norwegian official said: “We would like an official delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to arrive in Yemen and receive delegations from Sanaa to open channels of communication.”
He stated that, “Norway is a country that cares about peace and currently a member of the UN Security Council and has an independent policy, as it is not a member of the European Union and is the country that took a decision to stop the export of arms to the UAE.”
At the meeting, Al-Mashat welcomed the visit of the NOREF director to Sanaa to brief on the humanitarian situation of the Yemeni people as a result of the war and the siege for the eighth year in a row, and the horrific crimes committed by the US-backed Saudi-led coalition against Yemen.
Al-Mashat expressed Yemen’s aspiration for the Norwegian role in alleviating the human suffering of the Yemeni people, praising the decision taken by Norway to stop arms exports to the UAE and arms sales to coalition countries.
