Deputy Water Minister stresses need to continue UNICEF’s support for water projects

SANAA, Sept. 22 (YPA) – Deputy Minister of Water and Environment in the National Salvation Government in Sanaa, Honien Al-Dreeb, stressed on Thursday the importance of UNICEF’s continual support to local water and sanitation institutions with diesel to operate wells, thus contributing to the delivery of clean and safe water services to beneficiaries.

This came while presiding over the meeting held today in Sanaa to discuss areas of cooperation and coordination with UNICEF to support water and environmental sanitation projects, in the presence of the Head of the Water and Environmental Sanitation Department at UNICEF, George Tabbal.

Al-Dareeb pointed to the need to find a mechanism through which diesel and gasoline are provided to water institutions, stressing that UNICEF is concerned with providing diesel to local water institutions to ensure that water and sewage systems do not deteriorate.

The meeting also touched on aspects related to the implementation of solar energy projects in the provinces of Taiz, Ibb and others to help institutions safely withdraw from fuel subsidies.
