Iranian President welcomes improvement of relations with Saudi Arabia

NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (YPA) – Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi on Wednesday said that Tehran welcomes rapprochement with Saudi Arabia, during a meeting he held with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi on the sidelines of the General Assembly in New York.

Raisi expressed Iran’s appreciation for the goodwill and efforts of the Iraqi government and the prime minister to improve relations between the countries of the region, including Iran and Saudi Arabia.

He added that Iran welcomes the improvement of relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, “but we insist that this process should proceed on the basis of the agreements and understandings reached in the talks between the officials of the two countries in Iraq.”

Raisi stressed that his country “has always taken into account the interests of the Islamic nation in its regional relations.”
