Riot breaks out at Shabwa central prison

SAHBWA, Sept. 20 (YPA) – A riot, followed by fires, broke out on Monday inside one of the UAE-run central prisons in Ataq city, the Shabwa provincial capital.

The sources reported that the inmates of the central prison in Ataq carried out protests accompanied by riots, against the background of repressive measures and the use of force against them by Al-Amaliqa forces, Giants, and the Shabwa Defense of Southern Transitional Council (STC) backed by the UAE.

According to the sources, the prisoners broke doors and windows in order to escape from the prison as a result of the ill-treatment they receive inside the prison.

This came after the STC militias took control of the province and all government facilities and institutions, during fierce battles fought with Islah party forces with the support of the coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
