Prisoner committed suicide inside UAE-run prisons in Aden

ADEN, Sept. 09 (YPA) – A prisoner committed suicide on Friday inside a Bir Ahmed Detention Center, which is run by Emirati intelligence, in Aden city, south of Yemen.

Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the prisoner, Ahmed Salem Al-Adani, committed suicide inside the prison, due to ill-treatment and subjecting him to various types of physical and psychological torture.

The sources indicated that 14 prisoners declared an open hunger strike, after obtaining their acquittal of the charges against them, and brought them before a court in the city during the past years, following local and international human rights pressures.

The Emirati officers assigned to directly supervise the Bir Ahmed prison refuse to release political activists and detainees opposed to the UAE presence in Aden, and others who were kidnapped from the streets on false accusations, the sources added.
