ABYAN, Aug. 23 (YPA) – The Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia backed by the UAE continued to advance towards Ahwar area, northeast of the capital of Abyan, in southern Yemen, after it had launched a military operation in the province.
Local sources familiar with the matter indicated that the STC militia entered the city of Ahwar, which is under the control of the militants of the 111th Brigade that defected from Islah Party, and battalions of the “Third Brigade Presidential Protection” led by Louay Al-Zamki, who refused to hand over his military positions to the STC.
Head of the STC’s breach in Abyan, Mohammed Ahmed Haidara al-Shaqi, confirmed that a military operation that launched on Monday would aim to cleanse the Abyan districts of what he called “terrorist elements”.
He indicated, in news statements, that the operation coming from Dhalea and Yafa would reach Mahra province, in a clear threat to storm Mahra and to confront the people of the province opposing the US-British and Saudi-British presence, led by Sheikh Ali bin Salem al-Huraizy.
The militants of the “Third Presidential Protection Brigade”, in mid-May, led by Louay Al-Zamki, took over Ahwar district, which Islah militants gained in April 2021, led by the director of Abyan security, Ali Al-Dhib Abu Mishaal Al-Kazmi.
