Algeria’s wildfires death toll rises to 37

WORLD, Aug. 19 (YPA) – At least 37 people have been killed and dozens more injured in forest fires that have devastated northern Algeria.

“The death toll from forest fires in the country has risen to 37 deaths,” Algeria’s Directorate General of Civil Protection said in its report at dawn today, Algeria’s Civil Protection Authority said in a statement on Friday.

The statement added that “the number of wounded has also risen to 183 people.”

Most of the victims were reported in the wilaya, or region, of El Tarf, near the northern Algeria-Tunisian border, where 34 people were found dead.

Firefighters continue their work in several areas with the help of helicopters, where the majority of fires had been extinguished.
