31 detainees, including foreigners, escape from detention center in Lebanon

BEIRUT, Aug. 07 (YPA) – About 31 detainees escaped on Sunday morning from a detention center under the Qasr al-Adl bridge in Beirut, after they managed to smuggle a tool to their prison that helped them carry out this operation, according to security and judicial sources.

In a statement, the Lebanese Internal Security Forces said: “At dawn today, 31 detainees managed to escape from the police station under the Beirut Justice Palace bridge.”

“Immediate orders were given to arrest them, and the investigation is under the supervision of the competent judiciary,” the statement added.

The statement explained that the fugitives “cut an iron window using a saw that was secretly entered into the prison.” He pointed out that “it is possible that one or more people from outside the prison have helped them.”
