Poland’s President: Merkel’s support for ‘Northern Torrent-2’ is a hostile act

WORLD, Aug. 02 (YPA) – Polish President André Duda said long-term support for the “Northern Torrent-2” project by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was a mistake.

“The gas projects entitled “The Northern Torrent” are a big stain on Germany on my part,” Duda told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper published Tuesday.

“We’ve always heard that “North Torrent” is just a business that couldn’t have been influenced. I did not agree with that before. Then there was an agreement between President (Joe) Biden and Merkel about Washington abandoning  the confrontation of  the “North Torrent-2″ , aand at same evening Merkel called (Russian President Vladimir) Putin. It shocked me. This must be understood not only as an act of indifference, but also as an almost hostile act towards our part of Europe.”

The North Torrent-2 gas pipeline has been fully built, but has not yet been launched. His testimony was already suspended under the supervision of the current German Chancellor, Olaf Schulz, on February 22nd after Russia recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.

Angela Merkel is currently facing criticism over Germany’s previous policy toward Russia. Some accuse Merkel of supporting the “North Torrent-2” project as well as of opposing Ukraine’s accession to the alliance at the NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008.
