Pro-coalition commander survives assassination in Taiz

TAIZ, Jul. 02 (YPA) – A senior commander loyal to Saudi-led coalition in ranks of Islah Party militia on Saturday survived an assassination attempt in Taiz province, western Yemen.

Local sources reported that an improvised explosives bomb went off in a military car of the commander in the “Transport Brigade”, Amjad Khaled, when he stopped in 24th Street in Al-Turba city in Taiz.

The sources stated that the explosion led to the killing of a recruit in the coalition ranks and the injury of others, and caused damages in the surrounding.

The Islah militia deployed following the blast and closed the area and raided commercial shops, according to the sources.

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) last week accused the commander of the transport brigade loyal to Islah Party of being behind the assassination of the military commander Thabit Jawas in Aden.
