Fuel prices surge in Socotra following supply shortages

SOCOTRA, June 20 (YPA) – The Saudi-owned oil company declared on Wednesday a price hike for petroleum products in the Socotra archipelago, located east of the Gulf of Aden, following a severe fuel shortage that the island experienced in recent days.

The company imposed a new price on Socotra residents, setting the price of a liter of gasoline at 1,800 Yemeni Rials and a liter of diesel at 1,900 Rials, equivalent to approximately $7.96.

This move will further burden residents of Socotra and other areas in southern and eastern Yemen, who are already facing increasing living costs due to successive fuel price hikes imposed by the government.

This comes amidst the collapse of basic services and the suspension of salaries, exacerbating the suffering of the population under the current economic conditions.
