DHALEA, Jun. 10 (YPA) – The southern Yemeni city of Dhalea has witnessed a security alert after al-Qaeda members kidnapped the brother of a leader in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias in Dhalea province.
Sources said that al-Qaeda operatives kidnapped the brother of the commander of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Brigade of the so –called “Southern Resistance” Munir Saif, in connection with the killing of al-Qaeda leader Amjad al-Naqis.
Al-Qaeda accused Saif of being behind the murder of al-Naqis , especially since his battalion is based in the area where his body was found, one of the sources said.
The source noted the al-Qaeda terrorist organization vowed to vowed to conduct retaliatory attacks against the UAE-backed militia commanders in Dhalea.
Following al-Qaeda threat, the STC raised the alert status, combat raising readiness, doubling their guards and travel on armoured vehicles for fear of being targeted.
