NEW YORK, April 14 (YPA) – The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, on Thursday revealed during a briefing to the Security Council that progress has been made in the prisoner exchange file in Yemen.
The UN envoy urged all parties to expedite agreement on the details of the captives release process, confirming that “the United Nations will support the International Committee of the Red Cross in efforts to implement the prisoner exchange agreement.”
He described the truce in force in Yemen as “fragile and temporary,” stressing “the need to work collectively and intensively to ensure that it does not disintegrate.”
The UN envoy considered the armistice as “an opportunity to direct Yemen in a new direction, affirming the importance of strengthening this path by making progress on the political front.
Grundberg said that he would work with the parties to build on the elements of the armistice in order to preserve it, and as part of the multi-track process that he seeks to launch.
