Khashoggi’s fiancée denounces decision to close case of his murder in Turkey

ANKARA, March 31 (YPA) – Khadija Cengiz, the fiancée of the late Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, denounced on Thursday the Turkish prosecutor’s request to close the case of his murder and transfer it to Saudi Arabia.

Khadija said in a series of tweets on her Twitter account, “it is an exemplary situation in terms of showing the dilemma facing humanity in the modern era… which of the two will we choose? .. Desire to live as a virtuous person? Or building a life by placing material interests above all kinds of values.”

“This system, in which material interests are often put forward, will eventually blow itself up,” she continued. “Because it goes against human nature.”

Khadija’s remarks comes after the Turkish Public Prosecutor’s request Thursday to suspend the trial in absentia of Saudi suspects in the killing of “Khashoggi” in his country’s consulate in Istanbul in 2018, and to transfer the case to the Saudi authorities.

This came amid rapprochement and attempts to remove tension in relations between Riyadh and Ankara.

The court, which is trying the Saudis in absentia, said that it would seek the opinion of the Ministry of Justice on this request, and set the date for the next session on the seventh of next April.

The court is considering charges against 26 Saudi defendants in absentia, including strangling Khashoggi to death and dismembering him.
