European countries call on their citizens not to volunteer to fight against Russian forces in Ukraine

SANAA, March 29 (YPA) – European countries have called on their citizens to refrain from engaging as volunteers to support Ukrainians in the fight against the Russians.

In a statement issued by the Belgian Justice Ministry after the Fandom group meeting, seven EU countries, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain, called on their citizens to refrain from participating as volunteers to support Ukrainians in the fight against Russians, in a declaration issued by their justice ministers.

“The statement unanimously discouraged Europeans from joining the ranks of volunteer fighters,” the statement added.

“Of course we discourage people from going to the battlefield,” French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said after a meeting with his European counterparts in Brussels.

The Fandom group includes the ministers of justice of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced in late February the formation of an “international army” to support his country’s army in the face of the Russian offensive.
