Double standards of war: America is crying for Ukraine, dancing to children’s massacres in Yemen

SANAA, March 16 (YPA) -“A soft critique of Saudi abuses exposes double standards when it comes to how Western countries deal with the absolute monarchy, which have been waging a brutal assault on almost neighboring Yemen for 7 years, Sarah Whitson, the executive director for Democracy in the Arab World Now said in her report.

As America and Britain has continued to press for increasing oil production to offset rising global energy prices amid sanctions against Russia, at a time Saudi Arabia executed 81 people in the country’s largest mass execution in decades, in shameful silence by the western countries towards the crime.

Whitson continued: If the United States wants the world to oppose Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine, “it should stop supporting the war in Yemen,” adding that the divergent coverage of the wars in Ukraine and Yemen indicates “inherent racism” in the West.

The report pointed out that the visit of British Prime Minister, Poris Johnson, to Saudi Arabia and the UAE for talks on energy security, as several critics has sparked concerns about the two countries’ human rights records, as well as US officials speak of US President Biden’s visit to Riyadh to discuss global oil supplies, while the US has refused to directly condemn Saudi Arabia for its execution of 81 men last Saturday.

The report ridiculed the circulation of the war on Yemen, as it said that the worst humanitarian crisis in the world we hear little about. The crisis has been caused by America and its allies by supporting Saudi Arabia with weapons and technical assistance.
Sarah Whitson wondered, “How the United States can continue to support the Saudi-led war and the blockade imposed on Yemen?

Answered by saying that it is mind-boggling and is also puzzling that Mohammed bin Salman said that he will not increase oil production unless America increases its support for the Yemen war, which means that the Biden administration’s negotiation to save the children of Ukraine, is offset by the increase in the massacres of Yemeni children.

She said: “It is deeply disturbing to see the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and President Biden are trumpeting Russian atrocities in Ukraine while supporting the crimes and massacres committed by the Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates against citizens and children in Yemen.”

“We must be very clear, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are working to starve the Yemeni people, by imposing an air, land and sea blockade that has been going on for 7 years, while the country lives on importing more than 90% of its food,” She added.

The report stressed that US’s help to defend the UAE by firing Patriot missiles would not be the only option, as Abu Dhabi could protect itself by not interfering in the Yemen war, stopping arming and financing proxy forces, in addition to ending its blockade of Yemen.
