SANAA, Feb. 13 (YPA) – Ministry of Fisheries issued on Sunday a decision banning the import and use of fishing nets, in order to preserve the environment and marine life.
Head of the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea, Hashem Al-Dana’i, affirmed that the use of string fishing nets caused the destruction of fish and coral reefs by dredging small fish.
He pointed out “that these string nets lead to the formation of the coral bleaching phenomenon, which causes the destruction of fish stocks.”
Eng. Al-Dana’I praised the role of fishermen who demanded a ban on the import and use of string fishing nets due to its damage to the marine environment.
