SANAA, Feb. 08 (YPA) – China’s Foreign Ministry denounced on Tuesday the sale of US arms to Taiwan.
The ministry said the US moves seriously undermined the country’s security and sovereignty.
“China will take strict measures to support its security interests,” Chinese spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a statement.
On Monday, the US Department of Defense announced that it has agreed to sell equipment and services worth $100 million to Taiwan to maintain and improve the Patriot missile defense system used by Taiwan.
Taiwan thanked the United States for agreeing to sell it military equipment, while Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said the decision to acquire new Patriot missiles was made during a 2019 meeting held with US officials in President Donald Trump’s administration.
