SANAA, Feb. 08 (YPA) – Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry has refused to ask the opposition to resign and insisted that his current government continue to work to organize general elections and get the country out of its crisis.
Speaking from his residence, Henry said: “Anyone who calls himself a Democrat must bear in mind that this time we will have good elections, without prejudice, without fraud, without violence or gang support.”
Henry refused to leave office, urging Democrats to work together so that the upcoming elections would not lead to new crises.
The prime minister’s speech came after a tense day of opposition protests calling for a new government under the Montana Agreement, an initiative by civil society and political parties to get the country out of trouble.
Henry’s opponents took to the streets on Monday, demanding justice in connection with the assassination of the country’s president, Juvenel Moyes in July last year.
