SANAA, Feb. 05 (YPA) – Algeria’s Foreign Ministry has refused to grant Israeli entity the status of an observer member of the African Union.
The Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, said his country’s rejection of the decision to grant the Israeli occupation the status of an observer member of the African Union in July “without consultations with member states, which led to a split in the Union.”
AFP previously reported that the African Union would be ready for an internal clash at a weekend summit over its relationship with the entity.
The agency stated in a report that “the dispute began last July when Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairperson of the African Union Commission, agreed to grant Israeli entity as observer status in the 55-member body based in Addis Ababa, which considered Zionist diplomats as a victory they had been seeking for nearly two decades.”
