Parliament discusses seriousness of health situation as result of coalition siege on Yemen

SANAA, Dec. 28 (YPA) – The House of Representatives, in its session held on Tuesday, discussed the seriousness of the health and living situation of citizens as a result of siege and crimes imposed by the US-backed Saudi-led coalition against the Yemeni people.

In the session, headed by Speaker Yahya Al-Ra’i, the members of the parliament held the coalition responsible for the deteriorating health situation, the spread of epidemics in Yemen, and the bombing of drinking water wells and sanitation.

In their discussions, they referred to some indicators of health reports have confirmed that 2.5 million children is suffering from severe malnutrition, 400,000 of whom are at risk of death.

The council pointed out 21 million people in Yemen need humanitarian assistance, while the population of 247 districts are suffers from food insecurity according to the interim classification made by the Director of the World Food Program and the UN organizations.

The members called on the United Nations and international organizations and bodies to pressure on the coalition stats to stop the aggression and lift the siege, as well as constantly opening Sanaa International Airport to confront disasters and health epidemics, and the effects and repercussions of the aggression on the epidemical situation.

The people’s representatives affirmed that targeting health facilities with direct and indirect bombing by the aggression coalition have led to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in Yemen, the spread of various diseases and epidemics, and the lack of water, as well as the recycling of sanitation infrastructure.

They called on international organizations working in the health sector to assume their responsibilities to combat diseases and epidemics and continue to support the health sector, on the occasion of the International Day of Preparedness for Epidemics.
