SHABWAH, Dec. 27 (YPA) – Gunmen assassinated on Monday a leader of Islah Party, Yemen branch of Muslims brotherhood) in Ataq city, Shabwah province, in an indication of launching assassination operations, as the party’s officials were removed from its authority.
According to local sources, “unknown” militants intercepted the preacher and the Imam of al-Faruq Mosque in the city centre and immediately killed him.
The operation was the first since the Islah governor’s change in the oil-rich province a few days ago, and according to party activists, the first assassinations could bring to mind the post-Aden scenario.
The UAE has funded assassination squads to “root out the Muslims Brotherhood,”” while the party’s opponents, specifically in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council STC, believe that the new assassinations prove the party’s involvement in the liquidation of its followers in order to play a “dirty” political role.
