Sanaa calls on UN to fulfill its promises on demining process

SANAA, Dec. 20 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdulmohsen Tawoos, on Monday stressed that there are many obstacles to the demining process.

Tawoos explained, in a press statement, that the obstacles are represented in the lack of devices and even detection dogs, and there are martyrs from the field teams because of the poor quality of the devices.

“We agreed to allocate $1.5 million dollars as urgent assistance to expedite mine clearance, and we hope in the coming days to agree with the United Nations to set priorities to expedite demining,” he said.

He pointed out that the report submitted by the National Mine Action Center has not been considered by the United Nations yet.

Tawoos expressed his optimism that the United Nations would fulfill its promises in this regard, noting that delegates from the UNDP are scheduled to meet with the national demining team.
