Shura discusses report on aggression impact on tourism sector in Yemen

SANAA, Dec. 15 (YPA) – The Shura Council, in its meeting Wednesday headed by the Speaker of the Council Mohammed Al-Aidarous, discussed the report of the Council’s Environment and Tourism Committee on the repercussions of the aggression on tourism sector.

In the meeting, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Abdo Mahdi, Al-Aidarous considered the tourism sector one of the most important economic sectors, and represents one of the most important tributaries of economic development.

He affirmed the Supreme Political Council’s interest in the tourism sector by studying the alternatives and mechanisms available to revive it, Pointing out that the Saudi-led aggression coalition had deliberately destroyed historical sites, tourist and religious facilities, and tourist and archaeological cities, including those registered on  the World Heritage List of UNESCO.

Al-Aidarous explained that the tourism sector was greatly affected by the systematic targeting of the aggression coalition, which caused tourism to incur billions of dollars in losses, in addition to the loss of hundreds of thousands of its workers.

The report focused on the importance of tourism, the most prominent tourism components that characterize Yemen, the difficulties and challenges faced by the tourism sector and the Ministry of Tourism, in light of the US- backed Saudi aggression and blockade.
