After US threats to humanitarian orgs in Yemen, Saudi-led aircrafts hit MSF’s center
SANAA, June 12 (YPA) – Doctors Without Borders (MSF) organization on Monday accused Saudi-led coalition of targeting one of its Yemen-based cholera treatment centers, announcing freezing of its activities temporarily in the targeted area.
The organization said in a statement that the center is located in Abs district of Hajjah province, northwest Yemen, and was hit by an air strike in the morning before patients begin to access it.
The center is about one kilometer from a hospital run by the organization in Abs district.
The organization said that it had put signals on the surface of the center to indicate that it is a medical center, adding that the raid did not cause casualties.
“The air strike caused great damage to the organization’s building and destroyed all medicines and medical equipment,” local sources said.
In its account on Twitter, the organization considered that the attack by Saudi-UAE coalition shows a lack of full respect for medical facilities and patients.
“Whether it was intentional or as a result of negligence, this is totally unacceptable,” the organization said.
In 2016, 19 people were killed in an air strike hit a hospital run by MSF in Abs. A coalition committee later announced that the aircrafts made a mistake when they launched the raid.
The raid prompted the organization to suspend its work in six hospitals in different parts of northern Yemen, including Abs district, before returning to work in the hospital last November.
The United States of America, which is leading the war coalition against Yemen and participating in with its forces, has recently put great pressure and threatened humanitarian organizations in Yemeni areas under the authority of the army and Houthi popular committees to force them to leave Yemen.
Yemen Press Agency obtained information from senior political sources in Sanaa confirm that US troops are preparing for a direct participation in the west coast battle in the coming days to help coalition forces, which failed to make progress on the ground.
