ADEN, Jan. 31 (YPA) – United Arab Emirates on Tuesday tasked Yemen’s Southern Separatist Movement to run Aden, a day after the UAE-backed movement’s fighters captured the port city and confined Saudi-backed local government, officials said.
The move came after the head of Saudi-backed government Ahmed bin Daghar fled the city after his loyal forces were defeated a day before following two days of deadly clashes.
The rest of the government members could be released in a deal and transported to Saudi Arabia, according to the officials.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-based resigned President Hadi was reportedly met with his allied parties, including Islah party (Muslim Brotherhood) in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Hadi handed over his resignation to the political parties and said what was happened in Aden was a “coup”.
