North Korea accuses Washington of escalating tension in the region

SANAA, Oct. 23 (YPA) – North Korea’s Deputy Foreign Minister Pak Myong  Ho  has on Saturday accused the United States of escalating the situation  in the Asia-Pacific region by inciting independence of Taiwan  .

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported early Saturday that North Korea had accused the United States of inciting Taiwan independence, which meant further escalation and tension in the Asia-Pacific region.

The North Korean official made the remarks in response to President Joe Biden’s remarks at a CNN forum on Thursday, when asked whether the United States would act to defend Taiwan if China invaded it, and he replied, “Yes, we have an obligation to do so.”

The White House said Friday that there had been no changes in Washington’s Taiwan policy after President Joe Biden promised to “defend the island from Chinese attack,” in remarks that angered Beijing.
