US welcomes talks between ‘Saudi Arabia and Iran’

SANAA, Oct. 05 (YPA) – The United States welcomed the direct talks by the Saudi authorities and the new government of Iran, expressing the hope that this dialogue will reduce tension in the region.

“We welcome Saudi Arabia’s announcement of direct talks with the new government of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said the US special envoy on Iran, Robert Malley, via Twitter on Monday evening.

“We hope that this dialogue will contribute to lowering tensions and addressing long-standing regional concerns. A joint full return to commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (of Iran’s nuclear program) will support these efforts.”

On Sunday, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, confirmed that the Kingdom held on September 21 the first round of direct talks with the new government of Iran as part of a negotiation process that began earlier this year to reduce tension between the two countries.
