Saudi Arabia continues arbitrary measures to deport Yemeni expatriates

SANAA, Sept. 10 (YPA) – Jeddah University has informed Yemeni academics working for it to end their employment contracts in new Saudi abuses against Yemeni expatriates, well-informed sources reported.

According to the Sources, Saudi Arabia is continuing the process of deporting Yemeni expatriates from Asir, Jizan and Najran, and the process has expanded to other areas.

The sources denied that the Saudi authorities had backed away from deportations of Yemenis, which had been widely criticized by international human rights organisations.

According to Human Right Watch (HRW), Saudi authorities have since July 2021 began to terminate or not renew contracts of Yemeni professionals, which could force them to return to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

The organisation stressed that Saudi authorities should suspend this decision and allow Yemenis to remain in Saudi Arabia with the ability to work.

Hundreds of workers from Yemen in the southern region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been informed  that it has been decided to lay off them, Reuters reported.

In a report it published, the agency referred to several cases in which Yemenis working in the medical field, academics and others in the southern region of the Kingdom were dispensed with.

The exact number of the dispensed is not known, but the agency indicated that they are in the hundreds.

Officials in Saudi institutions said that they did not receive any justification for government orders not to renew the contracts of Yemenis

Moreover, Global Union of Yemeni Communities has also launched an international prosecution campaign against the Saudi authorities’ decision.

According to the statement, the first phase of the resolution aims to  collectively expel approximately 800,000 employees. These workers have official contracts and regular residences.
