France’s Lafarge faces charges of complicity with crimes against humanity in Syria

SANAA, Sept. 08 (YPA) – France’s top court on Thursday overturned a decision by a lower court to dismiss charges brought against cement giant Lafarge for complicity in crimes against humanity in Syria’s civil war.

The court in France rejected a previous legal ruling Tuesday to “drop the charge of complicity in crimes against humanity against the cement company Lafarge for its dealings in Syria,” noting that “judges must review these allegations.”

It ruled whether or not a lower court was right to drop the charge of complicity in crimes against humanity against Lafarge in this investigation, asserting that “the court must review its decision.”

According to Reuters, Lafarge, now is part of the Swiss – listed Holsem, after its own internal investigation, admitted that its “Syrian branch paid armed groups to continue operations after 2011,” but dismissed several charges against it in an investigation by French judges.
