Humanitarian organization condemns Saudi strikes on civilian infrastructure in Taiz, Ibb
SANAA, Sept. 27 (YPA) –The Eye of Humanity Center for Rights and Development has strongly condemned the new Saudi attacks on civilian and service facilities, roads and bridges in Taiz and Ibb provinces, warning that continued strikes on vital infrastructure are worsening humanitarian conditions and disrupting essential services.
In a statement, the center said that, according to information it documented, Saudi forces targeted the main road at Al-Shiqq–Bab Al-Barah in Al-Shaer district of Ibb. It also reported two airstrikes on Al-Ahkoum area in Haifan district of Taiz, one of which struck the Al-Akboush water project while the other targeted a telecommunications network.
In Ibb, the center stated that Saudi warplanes also targeted Al-Dalil Bridge in Al-Makhaader district, describing the bridge as a vital route for civilian movement and the transportation of essential goods and supplies.
It pointed out that attacks on water projects, telecommunications networks, roads, bridges and other civilian facilities cannot be justified on military grounds when such sites are civilian in nature and serve local communities.
The center stressed that the protection of civilians and civilian objects remains a fundamental obligation under international humanitarian law.
It held the Saudi authorities and those responsible for military operations accountable for the reported attacks and their direct and indirect impact on civilians, calling for an end to attacks on civilian infrastructure and measures to protect residents and their essential interests.
The center warned that continued damage to water supplies, communications networks and transportation infrastructure would further aggravate living and humanitarian conditions, particularly in communities dependent on these facilities for their daily needs.
It also called on the United Nations and international human rights and humanitarian law organizations to document and investigate the reported attacks, ensure accountability for serious violations, and strengthen protection for civilians and civilian infrastructure.
