SANAA, Sept. 01 (YPA) – Nigerian security sources said that at least 17 people, including a soldier and an aid worker, were killed in new attacks in northeastern Nigeria that were attributed to the terrorist organization ISIS.
The sources indicated that hundreds of ISIS fighters stormed the town of Rann on the border with Cameroon and expelled the Nigerian soldiers from their base and occupied the area for several hours.
The attack caused a mass exodus of residents to Cameroon before the army was able to regain control of the city with air support.
An anti-IS militia leader in the town said the heavily armed fighters “stole weapons before setting buildings and vehicles on fire”.
Militants attacked the nearby town of Ajiri earlier, killing six of its residents.
