Morocco responds to Algeria’s decision to sever diplomatic ties

SANAA, Aug. 25 (YPA) – Morocco’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday evening responded to what it described as Algeria’s the unilateral decision to sever diplomatic relations with Morocco starting this day

The  ministry said, in a statement that it is completely unjustified but expected decision – in view of the logic of escalation noted in recent weeks – as well as its impact on the Algerian people.

Morocco categorically rejected the fallacious, even absurd, pretexts underlying it, the statement read.

“ Rabat will remain a credible and loyal partner for the Algerian people and will continue to act, with wisdom and responsibility, for the development of healthy and fruitful inter-Maghreb relations,” the statement added.

Algeria severed diplomatic relations with Morocco on Tuesday, citing what it described as “hostile” actions by Morocco, whose relationship with Morocco has been strained for decades.

Speaking at a press conference in Algiers, Foreign Minister Ramtan Lamamara accused Morocco of using Israel’s Pegasus program to spy on Algerian officials, support a separatist movement and fail to comply with its bilateral commitments, including on the Western Sahara issue.
