SANAA, Aug. 24 (YPA) – The first ambassador of Qatar to Cairo since the Gulf crisis that erupted in the summer of 2017, and ended at the beginning of this year, handed over his credentials.
The official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that “Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a copy of the credentials of Salem Mubarak Al Shafi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Qatar to Egypt.”
QNA added, “The Egyptian Foreign Minister wished the ambassador success in his work assignments, and the bilateral relations further development and growth.”
On August 18, Al Shafi arrived in Cairo from Doha; To take over his duties, according to local Egyptian media at the time.
On June 23, Egypt decided to appoint Amr El-Sherbiny as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar, followed about a month later by a decision from Doha to appoint Salem bin Mubarak bin Shafi as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cairo.
The extraordinary ambassador enjoys expanded legal powers, including signing agreements in the name of the state or body he represents, which the ordinary ambassador is not entitled to.
On June 23, Egypt appointed Amr Kamal El-Din Berry El-Sherbiny, ambassador extraordinary to Doha.
Since the Gulf crisis erupted in June 2017, relations have been severed between Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain on one side, and Qatar on the other.
The Egyptian-Qatari relations witnessed positive steps on the way back, after the signing of the “Al-Ula Declaration” last January in Saudi Arabia, which brought down the curtain on the Gulf crisis.
