ABU DHABI, Aug. 18 (YPA) – President Ashraf Ghani and his defense minister have settled with members of their families in the UAE, after fleeing Afghanistan following the Taliban’s control of the capital, Kabul, Afghan sources reported on Wednesday.
Afghan media said that Ghani settled with his family in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, after leaving Kabul, following conflicting rumors about his final destination.
A government source told Al-Jazeera TV that the Afghan Defense Minister, General “Basmullah Khan Mohammadi” and two of his sons had taken refuge in Dubai in the UAE.
Ghani and Khan Mohammadi did not issue an official statement regarding the news reported by Afghan sources about their arrival in the UAE.
Last Sunday, Ashraf Ghani said on his Facebook account that he left Afghanistan before the Taliban entered Kabul without resistance, stressing that he did so in order to save blood.
Two days ago, Russian media sources reported that the Afghan president fled with 4 cars and a helicopter loaded with money.
